SUMP PUMP FAILURE

If you have a sump pump it means that you’re already aware of water problems in your home and the possibility of damage. If your sump pump fails at the wrong time, it means water backing up and a flooded basement. The best way to avoid this fiasco is to have a professional check your pump regularly. In addition, a sump pump back-up or alarm may be installed.

HOW TO DEODORIZE YOUR SUMP PUMP

Sump pumps are a huge protection against flooding if your home is located in a low lying area. They prevent water from entering your basement by redirecting any incoming water to the outside.
Every pump basin will eventually have an odor if left unchecked, especially if the pump hasn't run for a month or two. Follow these instructions to keep your sump pump and basement odor-free.

  1. Use an airtight basin cover.
  2. Clean and disinfect the basin with a solution of 1 cup bleach to 1 gallon of water. Put this into the basin until the float switch activates the scrub the side of the basin.
  3. Keep the drain hole covered with water. This forces any odors in the drain pipe to stay in the pipe.
  4. Drain stagnant basin water or use the sump odor control tablets to deodorize.
